DESCRIPTION & CONDITION
Up for auction is a marvelous vintage Peruvian pre-Columbian reproduction original of a Huaco (a generic name given in Peru, mostly to earthenware vessels). This modern reproduction is based on pre-Columbian artifacts found in sites such as burial locations, sanctuaries, temples and other ancient ruins in Peru. Actual artifacts  by the Moche (Mochica) Indian, a pre-Columbian native people of Peru are on display in many Peruvian museums.  Huacos are not mere earthenware but notable pottery specimens linked to ceremonial, religious, artistic or aesthetic uses. Modern version Moche Huacos also known in Peru as "Pornos" are not exact copies of the originals but inspired by them with a modern more explicit twist. The originals, showing a couple in erotic positions are believed by some experts to have a fertility and productivity meaning and connection. These modern versions which are themselves originals are considered works of modern pottery art and are now being collected by several institutions in Peru, in particular the Larco Museum.
This ceramic Moche is in overall excellent condition without chips or cracks. It will make a great addition to any indigenous pottery or erotic collection and will make a great conversation item.
Remember that the only way to get your hands on these, is to either purchase them on the internet or going to Peru at a much higher cost.
