Peru Artifact, Conopa, Llama, Bearded Hardstone Ritual Effigy, Pre-Colombian.

Description

This is a carved hardstone ritual effigy from Peru, a Conopa. It is a ritual effigy, a "bearded" example, pre-Colombian. It is in a gray/bluish colored stone, weighs 2 1/2 pounds, measures 6 1/2" long, 2 3/8" wide and 5" high. It appears to have a natural "fissure" or crack running through it, front to rear, following the "grain". It has not been separated and repaired, seems to be a natural occurrence. I recently purchased the estate of a professor of natural history, she specialized in cultural anthropology in Peru and Chile in the 1950-1960's.
