    Description

This brightly colored, 3-dimensional tapestry was handmade in Peru.  It is an example of an arpillera.  Arpilleras originated in Chile, where the women created scenes of their lives with scraps of fabric on sack cloth.  The artwork is very detailed with appliques, embroidery, and 3D objects.
This arpillera depicts a lively tennis match complete with cheering fans.  The tennis rackets are made of paper while the rest of the art is made of fabric and yarn.  It is in good overall condition with a few flaws.  The white dresses of the tennis players show some yellowing.  Also, one of the fans is leaning forward due to the stitch that held him in place coming loose.  This could be fixed with a simple stitch.  A few of the stitches on the other fans are beginning to loosen as well but are still intact for now.  Please see the photos for details.
