    Description

This primitive whistle was found in the box, marked Tartu, at an estate sale.  I really don't know anything about it.  I picked it up, because I thought it was very different and very cool.  The box definitely shows age, it is yellowed inside and outside, and has some staining. It looks to be covered in a thin leather.   Tartu is the 2nd largest city in the country of Estonia. I believe the bridge pictured on the lid of the box is the Kivisild Stone Bridge, which was opened in 1784, then destroyed during WWII in 1941. The bridge pictured on the box is raised, in a 3-D kind of effect.  It's really neat. It measures 4"x4"x2".
The horse whistle itself, is not chipped or cracked anywhere.  It is a shade of black/brown.  The horse has a white cap and measures 3.5" in length and 2.5" in height.  I can imagine an American soldier in Tartu, during WWII, bringing this souvenir back home with him.
