VINTAGE FOLK ART BURIAL FUNERARY CLOTH TEXTILE DOLLS WALL HANGER Chancay.

These dolls were bought from an auction and came with no
provenance- so I can't
say if they are
authentic
or not.

These dolls were originally buried with people to protect them through eternity. Now the Chancay tribe uses the fabric found in the old graves, fabric that dates back to Columbian times, to hand make each set of dolls. This threesome measures 4.5"x6"x2" is attached to a vintage pad and comes on a hanging rope. Each face is hand embroidered. The quality of the ancient fabric and the natural dye process is amazing.
Note the middle doll is beginning to loosen away from the pad. See photograph.
Peruvian dolls are made using ancient textile fragments. The dolls were made using traditions that were in practice along the arid central coast of Peru a thousand years ago.
Condition: Strings hanging - cloth appears to  have stains on back and showed them in the pictures-no smell-string loose on back
